Lash Extension / Lash Lift FAQ
What are lash extensions?
"Classic" lash extensions are single false lashes attached in a 1:1 ratio to your natural eye lashes with a special semi-permanent adhesive which lasts for several weeks. This creates a thicker, darker, longer lash line eliminating the need for mascara. A new set of classic lashes takes about 2 hours to apply depending upon the number of natural lashes available and the style requested. Infill appointments are necessary every 2-3 weeks as needed to maintain the full look of the extensions. We lose 3-5 natural lashes per day as a part of the natural growth/shedding process. Your lash extensions will begin to look sparse as time goes by due to this natural shedding.

"Volume" lashes are fans created using several ultra fine extensions which are then applied to a single natural lash creating a much more full, fluffy, soft look while still adding length like a classic set. Volume lashes are perfect for those with fine, sparse lashes as well as those interested in a fuller, fluffier look. A new set of volume lashes can take about 4 hours to apply depending upon the number of natural lashes available and the style requested. Volume fans tend to last longer than classics, however when they do fall out it can show more. Infill appointments are also required with volume lashes every 2-4 weeks as needed.

A "Hybrid" set would be a combination of classic and volume, which can offer the best of both worlds. Classic lashes give structure and volume lashes give softness, and fullness. Hybrid sets offer a way to try volume at a more easy to swallow price point and it's a way to switch from one to the other without having to remove what you have and apply a whole new set. You can simply request a hybrid infill appointment to start switching over from one to the other or stay with the hybrid if you prefer that look. Infill appointments are recommended every 2-4 weeks, as needed.
Are they safe and what happens if I become allergic?
When applied properly, using proper isolation and proper technique, extensions WILL NOT HARM THE NATURAL LASH. However, if "cluster" lashes are applied to several natural lashes at once with the semi-permanent adhesive, or if the proper techniques are not used, damage can occur. It is very important to know what type of extension is being applied to your lashes and to be certain of your lash tech's credentials and experience. I use either single extensions applied one at a time to an individual natural lash (classics) or lightweight fans created using very fine lash extensions applied one fan at a time to a single natural lash (volume) or a combination of both techniques (hybrid). Applying extensions to a single natural lash allows your natural lashes to grow and shed as they normally would regardless of the extension.

Allergies can develop at any time and from anything in our environment. While uncommon, allergies to cyranoacrylate (the active ingredient in ALL lash extension adhesives) does happen from time to time. More commonly a client will be sensitive to the fumes from an adhesive or from the tape or eye pads used during the treatment but that will only cause a mild irritation; watery eyes, slight itching or mild eye redness, and will dissipate within a few hours to a few days after the treatment. A true allergic reaction to the adhesive will usually appear within the first 24 hours after an application and will not stop until the extensions have been removed. The eyelids will swell, become red and itchy and sometimes there will even be a crusty discharge from the eye. Don't panic! While it's miserable and must be treated, the likelihood of any lasting effects is very minimal. Ideally, the lashes should be removed as soon as possible and you should see your doctor for treatment options to alleviate the allergy symptoms. Sometimes there is too much swelling and immediate removal of the lashes would cause further discomfort due to the cream remover that is used to soften the adhesive bonds. In these situations it's best to see your doctor first to alleviate the symptoms as much as possible and then remove the extensions so as not to cause further irritation. If you like, I can preform a "patch test" to see if you are already allergic to cyranoacrylate, however since it can develop at any time there is no real way to know when or if it will happen to you. Removal of lash extensions due to allergic reaction is always free! However, I cannot refund the cost of application services if you should become allergic to any of the products used. To be very clear, there are no refunds on services due to a reaction.
How can I find a reputable professional?
Ask questions! Because of the sensitive nature of the eye area, finding someone who is certified to apply the lashes is definitely a must. Professionals use professional products and have been properly trained to apply the lashes without damaging your natural lashes or more importantly, your eyes. Research who you want to go to and how long they have been working as a technician. (I have been a licensed esthetician since 2000 and a certified lash tech since 2015) Remember, you get what you pay for, but just because someone charges more doesn't make them a good lash tech. Look at before-and-after photos, read reviews and always make sure they are a licensed professional, licensed estheticians and cosmetologists will have a copy of their license on display. Ask your friends or others who have beautiful lash extensions for a referral, and then do your own research. Look at their Instagram or Facebook pages for before-and-after photos. Any reputable lash tech who is good at what they do will be proud of their work and will post often to show the world! Please check mine out by clicking on the links at the top of every page!

How should I take care of my lashes?
Your lashes should be washed at least once per day with a foaming lash cleanser (which I have for purchase) and gently brushed using a clean spoolie (which I will provide to you at no charge). You should expect to see several lost lashes each day. We typically lose 2-5 natural lashes per eye per day in a normal shedding cycle, and while you normally wouldn't notice that loss, you will probably see the ones attached to an extension. Don't be alarmed, this loss is normal and this is why you'll need to schedule infill appointments to keep your lash line looking full. Using oil based makeup, skincare products or water proof mascara will cause the adhesive to degrade, in turn causing your extensions to fall off prematurely. Rubbing your eyes, picking at the extensions or sleeping on your face will also cause premature shedding, please be gentle with them! Keeping your lashes impeccably clean will reward you with much better retention. Clean lashes are happy lashes! You may also choose to apply a lash sealant every 2-3 days for even better retention. Mascara is not advised, however if you wish to use a water based mascara (NOT WATER PROOF) you may, just be sure to remove it ALL each night AND before you come in for your infill appointments. You are paying for application time and if I have to take time to clean off your old mascara it will take away from your lashing time.

What happens at an infill appointment?
An infill appointment is shorter than a full set, but varies depending upon how much loss you've incurred and how much time has passed. I recommend an infill appointment be scheduled before you leave each time. You should arrive for your infill appointment with impeccably clean lashes. Mascara or other makeup will shorten the life of your extensions and will shorten the time I have to apply new lashes at your infill appointment because I will have to clean them before I can begin applying new extensions. I will lightly cleanse your lashes again before beginning the services to remove any natural oils, and then gently remove any extensions that have grown out or have become twisted or "wonky". Then I will apply new extensions to replace those lost through natural shedding or that I have removed myself. This is also the perfect time for you to let me know if there is anything you'd like to do differently. If you'd like them longer or shorter, if you'd like to try colored lashes or a different "style", or anything else that may have concerned you or that you would like to change. Every appointment is an opportunity for us to communicate and for me to customize the service to suit your needs. You'll leave every infill appointment with a new spoolie, an appointment for next time, and a fresh set of lashes!

What about Lash Lifts?
A Lash Lift is a new variation on a traditional lash perm. Utilizing safer solutions and silicone rods or shields, a Lash Lift actually turns the eyelashes upwards rather than simply curling them, to giving clients the appearance of having longer and thicker lashes. Lash Lifts last 6-8 weeks and are basically carefree. Throw away your eyelash curler! Add a Lash Tint and a growth serum and many clients no longer feel the need for extensions.
